Lunar Eclipse, Round 2

This wraps up the third eclipse in this series. It all ends with the full moon lunar eclipse that peaks at approximately 8:55pm EDT on Wednesday, August 5.

Eclipses usually occur two weeks apart from each other twice per year. Each series typically includes a lunar eclipse followed by a solar eclipse or vice versa. But for the first time in 7 years, we have experienced a lunar eclipse (July 7), solar eclipse (July 21), and finally this last lunar eclipse (August 5). A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is partially blocking the moon from the sun during a full moon. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks the sun from the Earth during a new moon. Full moons and new moons are astrologically potent time periods anyway, but the eclipses just add some amplification and usually a little dose of the unexpected!

Astrologically speaking, new moons are generally a time of sowing seeds while full moons are a time of reaping what we sow. Where a new moon falls in our personal natal chart represents a time of new beginnings and laying new foundations in the parts of our lives represented by the astrological house that is highlighted. Where a full moon falls in our personal natal chart represents a time of sudden awareness, revelation, culmination and completion in the parts of our lives represented by the astrological house that is highlighted. Eclipses just add some spice and surprise to these time periods.

Ancient astrologers saw eclipse seasons as especially potent time periods with regards to wars and the fate of nations. I personally prefer to look at eclipses relative to the lives and relationships of individuals. In this regard, eclipse seasons are often potent times for unexpected change in terms of surprise new beginnings and to final culminations of things which have been building for some time.

This current lunar eclipse will peak at approximately 14° Aquarius and it will be in conjunction with the north node of the moon. This represents a time of culmination and an influx of energy. When we are open and flexible in the face of change, this can be a rewarding time where we experience the culmination of past efforts. If we have been creating against our best interests or if we have been keeping things under the surface, this may mark a stressful time of culmination with regards to the release of our secrets or the results of our less than stellar creations. The experiences of this nature would be felt within the domain of the astrological house that encompasses the location of this eclipse at 14° Aquarius. You would need to consult your own natal chart to find out where this position falls for you.

For example, this point falls in my natal 5th house which is the house covering expression, fun, romance, authentic creativity, and our human creations (i.e. our children). For me and everyone else who has 14° Aquarius in their 5th house this could mark the culmination of a creative project, a budding romance, or a shining moment for our children. With a supportive aspect to Mars in my 9th house of long distance travel, communication, and publishing the time period covered by this eclipse could very well be a time where my creations take off! Since I am currently putting together some creations with the intent of publishing (including writings here), publishing may be part of this creative opportunity! It could also possibly result in a time where I experience a romance while traveling or lecturing…and I certainly have a lot of travel and lectures lined up over the next few months!

My natal Venus lies at 12° Aquarius in my 5th house so it will also be directly affected by this eclipse. Venus deals with things that we value like possessions (i.e. money) as well as romance, relationships and expression. In my personal chart, Venus also rules the 2nd (values, earnings, security) and the 9th (long distance travel, communication, and publishing) houses. These are other areas that may feel the effects of this energy. So as you can see, romance, expression, travel, lecturing and publishing are all wrapped up together in this eclipse for me…this all sounds good…but I will see how it pans out.

When other planets (current or personal natal planets) are in aspect to the eclipse it adds even more layers to the basic premise of the interpretation. For example, those people with birthdays on August 5 (+ or – several days) and February 4 (+ or – several days) will likely feel very personal experiences related to this lunar eclipse. This eclipse falls within a conjunction to Jupiter in Aquarius so this will amplify its effects. Also, for this particular eclipse, Mars in Gemini is in a beneficial aspect to the eclipse so this will add some sense of moving forward with any culmination that occurs allowing for new conditions to flow more easily and for us to take action with regards to this in our lives. Whatever this leads to for you, it may feel like a massive rushing wave pushing you forward into new territory from now through the upcoming winter!

The combination of the house location of the eclipse, its aspects to other current planets, and its aspects to the personal natal planets yields a very unique interpretation for each individual. For the best results in this case, find out where this lunar eclipse, Mars and Jupiter fall in your natal chart. Then find any planets or personal points in your natal chart that are also aspected by these configurations.

Total Solar Eclipse of the Century!

The title is no exaggeration! Actually the upcoming total solar eclipse, which peaks at 12:35am EDT on Wednesday, July 22, will be the longest lasting eclipse until 2114! See my previous article, “Lunar Eclipse, Round 1”, for a short description on the significance of eclipses.

This particular total solar eclipse occurs at 29° Cancer and will be in a smooth trine aspect to Uranus at 26° Pisces. It will also be in an almost exact conjunction with the lunar south node which is why it is such a long lasting eclipse in the first place. Depending on where this lands in your own personal natal chart, this eclipse is likely to lead to some type of ego-release and filtering in order to make room for some potentially surprising new developments. Its one of those ‘blessing in disguise’ kinds of experiences that looks invaluably helpful in retrospect but which may provoke anxiety and uncertainty in the present. With Uranus in such a cooperative angle to the eclipse, any surprise developments are bound to work out for the better but not before our egos get a dose of reality first!

The connection to the lunar south node indicates that these new developments may actually be related to something we were involved with in the past. Some of the ego-filtering may relate with having to deal with things we thought we had left behind but which are now suddenly in our faces to be resolved once and for all. But it may also be a case of receiving some kind of karmic reward for past involvements. Either way there will certainly be a period of strain as we deal with the unexpected changes even if they do end up helping us in the end. It’s always difficult recognizing our lives unfolding for the better in the long run when we are stuck in the moment trying so hard to keep things so unnaturally status-quo.

This eclipse is even more potent for my personal mini generation. For those born from August 1978 through June 1979, this eclipse will land within range of your natal Jupiter. And if you were born in early September 1978 or in March or April of 1979 (this includes me), this eclipse will be exactly on your natal Jupiter! The effects of this eclipse could manifest anytime over the next few months with mid-October 2009 being especially potent for finalizing conditions set in motion at the start of the eclipse. Mars reaches 29° Cancer in mid-October triggering resolution and completion with regards to our own personal issues brought up on or shortly after the eclipse on July 22.

For those with a birthday at or near July 22 in any year, there will also be extra emphasis for you associated with the eclipse.

Jupiter makes its trip around the zodiac once every 12 years or so. This means that other people outside of the date ranges mentioned above will also feel the affects of an exact conjunction to their natal Jupiter landing at roughly 12-year intervals (i.e. those born around 1954-55, 1966-67, 1978-79, 1990-91, etc.).

Jupiter gives us an indication of where our generosity, sense of adventure, and expansiveness lie. It’s considered a very benefic planet whose only downside is a tendency toward over-optimism and over-doing things. So depending on where this falls in our personal natal chart, it signifies where we can tap into the qualities just previously mentioned and where some potentially fortunate occurrences may precipitate in life.

For example, I have Jupiter at 29° Cancer (the exact location of the eclipse) and in my natal 11th house of groups, humanity, hopes, friends, and goals. Having Jupiter in my natal 11th house lends me to finding friends/associates in ‘high places’ when I am involved in activities that are aligned with my spiritual path. I also tend to excel in group settings where there is a common organizational goal. Traditional astrological texts would pronounce that having Jupiter in the 11th house is like having a genie in a bottle…eventually all of your hopes and wishes will be granted. Sounds great but I don’t personally buy into that interpretation. In general it just means that there may be fortunate circumstances in life related to organizations and working on mutual goals…but not without personal effort in those regards. But I digress…

Out of everyone that has their Jupiter at or near 29° Cancer, approximately 1/12 of you will also have Jupiter in your 11th house like me. But the rest of you will have Jupiter in any one of the other 11 astrological houses (see your own chart to find out where it is for you). For the people born within the time range mentioned above, this total solar eclipse will exactly conjunct your natal Jupiter (in whatever house it may be) and will also be connected beneficially to Uranus in Pisces. For me, the eclipse will land in my 11th house and contact Uranus in my 7th house of relationships. But if the eclipse fell on your natal Jupiter in your 2nd house, for example, then the connection would be to Uranus in your 10th house. There are many combinations that are completely dependent on the set-up of your own personal natal chart.

A brief potential interpretation for the eclipse relative to my personal configurations could go something like this:

My goals are suddenly altered due to meeting a new business partner and/or marriage partner who gives me support and new ideas for a different direction than I have been headed. Since Jupiter is also the ruler of my 4th house of residence, home, and roots, this sudden meeting could also result in relocation that I didn’t see coming.

This is just one creative interpretation but no matter what the actual outcome of this eclipse is for me, if I were to approach a situation like this with fear and resistance, my experience would be one of anxiety and discomfort since I would have to decide to leave my old goals behind and possibly my old home behind to pursue the new venture. However, if I approach the same situation with openness and a willingness to detach my ego from my old goals and embrace the new opportunities then the experience may be perceived in a richer and more beneficial light. In the end, it’s all up to the chooser to define his/her own experience.

The effects of this eclipse may ripple out as long as a few months with initial conditions starting at or near the eclipse date (July 22, 2009) and resolutions and/or follow through for the initial conditions occurring in mid-October 2009 when Mars reaches the degree of the eclipse at 29° Cancer.

General Advice:

Let go of your ego attachments in some area of your life associated with the past and/or your status-quo way of dealing with things and make room for new developments that will benefit you in the long run.

Good luck!

Lunar Eclipse, Round 1

It’s eclipse season! And this time around we are getting three in a row instead of the typical two per season that we usually see. It all starts with the full moon lunar eclipse that peaks at approximately 5:21am EDT on Tuesday, July 7.

I am personally fond of lunar eclipses. For starters, there was one occurring when I was born! Also, I have retained a picture of a lunar eclipse that was occurring over the city of Boston as my lap top wall paper since the photo was taken the night the Red Sox won Game 4 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals in October 2004. An article on the significance of that particular lunar eclipse relative to the Red Sox is pending.

Eclipses usually occur two weeks apart from each other twice per year. Each series typically includes a lunar eclipse followed by a solar eclipse or vice versa. But for the first time in 7 years, we will experience a lunar eclipse (July 7), solar eclipse (July 22), and finally another lunar eclipse (August 5).

I will discuss the upcoming solar eclipse and August’s lunar eclipse in later articles. For now I will just focus on this lunar eclipse which is upon us.

This current lunar eclipse will peak at approximately 15° Capricorn and it will be in conjunction with the north node of the moon. The experiences of this nature would be felt within the domain of the astrological house that encompasses the location of this eclipse at 15° Capricorn. You would need to consult your own natal chart to find out where this position falls for you.

For example, this point falls in my natal 4th house which is the house covering our basic foundation, our emotional base and even our physical home itself. For me and everyone else who has 15° Capricorn in their 4th house this could mark the culmination of a big relocation/move or it could mark a time of one’s heart opening up to an influx of emotion (the emotion could be of a positive or negative nature depending on other factors). It could also mark a period where family members or someone from the native home is going through a struggle. Finally, it could relate to a malfunction of some appliance in the home where the repair has been postponed…until now!

This makes sense to my life right now because I will be discussing a possible relocation for a new job this week. The discussions have been going on for over a month but have been stalled. This could easily be the culmination one way or another regarding my decision to relocate or not. The areas of concern for this eclipse will greatly differ depending on the actual astrological house in question.

When other planets (current or personal natal planets) are in aspect to the eclipse it adds even more layers to the basic premise of the interpretation. For example, those people with birthdays on July 7 (+ or – several days) and January 6 (+ or – several days) will likely feel very personal experiences related to this lunar eclipse. Also, for this particular eclipse, Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) is in a beneficial aspect to the eclipse so this will add some stability to any culmination that occurs allowing for new conditions to become more easily grounded into our lives.

The combination of the house location of the eclipse, its aspects to other current planets, and its aspects to the personal natal planets yields a very unique interpretation for each individual. For the best results in this case, find out where this lunar eclipse and Saturn fall in your natal chart. Then find any planets or personal points in your natal chart that are also aspected by these configurations. Or, go to my contact page of my website for a personal reading!

Happy Eclipse Season!!!
